Digitalization in hazard prevention

Border & site security

The physical security of a territory or site along a perimeter will always be a central task of corporate or government security agencies. Technological possibilities, however, have changed in several respects. High-performance, smart-sensor technology is becoming increasingly capable of detecting and classifying suspicious incidents in sensitive areas and alerting security personnel as needed. But more sensor technology also means more data. The challenge lies in rapidly and accurately processing disparate sensor data, feeding it into relevant situational pictures, and adequately supporting decision-makers in their tasks. In addition, the use of drones for nefarious purposes such as sabotage, espionage and smuggling necessitates an expansion of the space to be monitored. We have solutions!

»Innovative technologies such as smart sensors and automated data processing will play an increasingly prominent role in site security. Ultimately, however, it is people who have to evaluate and make decisions.«

Sensor-based Monitoring of Agricultural Areas

Feeding our steadily growing world population is both one of the greatest global challenges and one of the most important research and business areas of Bayer AG. In the »SensFArM« project, Fraunhofer FKIE has developed a system that monitors the test fields where Bayer conducts its complex and costly research.

Port surveillance on, above and below the water

Terrorist attacks, drug smuggling, white-collar crime – these are all conceivable scenarios for illegal activities that can occur at sea, on land and in the air in port areas.
As part of a research project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), the Fraunhofer FKIE is developing a civil port surveillance system in partnership with ATLAS Elektronik and Bremenports.
