Motion Dynamics Lab

The Motion Dynamics Lab of System Ergonomics is dedicated to innovative simulation studies in dynamic environments. Its primary focus is the design and evaluation of human-machine interfaces, particularly for land-based platforms operating under real motion conditions.

Static evaluations of soldier-machine interfaces often provide only limited insights when applied to dynamic operational contexts such as vehicles. The Motion Dynamics Lab addresses this limitation by enabling realistic assessments under motion-based conditions.

The adaptive motion platform enables the integration of a wide range of hardware setups – from screen-based systems to immersive VR simulators. This provides detailed analysis of usability, efficiency, and system performance und conditions that closely resemble real-world operations.

A simple example illustrates the challenge: operating a touchscreen while driving over uneven terrain places significant demands on both the user and the system. It is precisely these kinds of scenarios that are investigated in the Motion Dynamics Lab, with the goal of developing robust and user-friendly interaction solutions for dynamic environments.
